Description:
Pair of shoe buckles in silver on copper and brass (unmarked), which belonged to Elihu Deering Lamphere or Lanphar (1770-1804) who married Abigail Vaughan (b.1774), the daughter of William Vaughan (c.1749-1835) and Katherine Broughton (c.1752-1838) of Portsmouth, NH, in 1797, and lived in Biddeford (Massachusetts until 1820). After Elihu's death, Abigail married William Hollis. One of their sons was Samuel Deering Lanphar (1798-1849) of Biddeford who married Mariam Tarbeaux (or Tarbox) Felker (1800-1892) in 1825. The donor is the great-great grandson of Samuel Deering and Mariam Lanphar
