Description:
English pearlware circular mustard pot with a cover with a button knop and strap handle, covered with engine-turned slip decoration in reddish-brown and dark brown, also known as mocha, banded, or dipped ware. The body and cover is covered with series of concentric circles with sets of two vertical lines intersecting the circles at intervals around the body and cover. This piece was formerly in the collection of John B. Morris, Jr., given to Deerfield Academy (#2383), and then purchased from DA in 1981. Scholar Jonathan Rickard believes that this squat form of mustard pot contained prepared mustard.
