Description:
English pearlware, cylindrical tumbler with angled walls, covered with slip decoration, also known as mocha, banded, or dipped ware. The tumbler was wheel-thrown and then turned on a lathe. The rim has cylindrical incised bands, or dicing, covered with copper green oxide slip, and the body is decorated with marbelized slip in shades of dark brown, reddish brown, tan, and white. The green glaze is added to the lead glaze after the biscuit firing. The flat foot is plain. This piece was formerly in the collection of John B. Morris, Jr., given to Deerfield Academy (#2071), and then purchased from DA in 1981.
