Description:
French red earthenware, 10-piece teaset (3 cups, 4 saucers, 1 sugar bowl, 1 tea pot, 1 wastebowl) decorated mid-body with two bands of beading flanking a band of inlaid agate in shades of gray, tan, dark brown, and reddish brown in a swirled design. This piece was formerly in the collection of John B. Morris, Jr., given to Deerfield Academy (#2103/853), and then purchased from DA in 1981. According to Jonathan Rickard, this set was made at the Douai factory of Charles and Jacob Leigh - two Yorkshire brothers who operated a pottery in France in the early 19th century.
