Description:
English creamware mug with an applied strap handle, covered with slip decoration, also known as mocha, banded, or dipped ware. Most of the body is covered with a mottled brown decoration (light and dark brown swirls), except at the rim and base. Three concentric circles circumscribe both the top and bottom, and three applied or badged, lobed leaf-like creamware ornaments, covered with underglaze green, are attached to the center sides. The mug was wheel-thrown and then turned on a lathe. This piece was formerly in the collection of John B. Morris, Jr., given to Deerfield Academy (#2055/926), and then purchased from DA in 1981.
