Description:
Large English pearlware coffeepot covered with slip decoration, also known as mocha, banded, or dipped ware. The baluster-shaped pot has a domed lid with a turned, ringed finial, where the upper section of the lid is cream over slip on the lower half, and blue dots over cream around the rim edge; a cream-colored strap handle; and curved spout with a molded leaf design around the base and blue decoration. There is a blue trellis pattern around the pot rim, and main body is covered with a tortoiseshell decoration in shades of dark brown, reddish-brown, and tan. The flared base is cream-colored, with a blue border around the base of the flat foot. This piece was formerly in the collection of John B. Morris, Jr., given to Deerfield Academy (#2940/826), and then purchased from DA in 1981.
