Description:
Cone-shaped stoneware inkwell formerly owned by Mrs. Gertrude Cochrane Smith (1875-1956) of Deerfield (David Dickinson House). She gave the inkwell to Barney and Ida Frances Williams who were once on the faculty of Deerfield Academy. They in turn gave it to Robert McGlynn of the DA faculty, who gave it to HD. An essential component of all desks and writing sets, the inkwell needed fit on the stand, desk or writing surface, and be sturdy enough to withstand occasional jolts and jostles administered by the writer.
