Description:
One of two Empire side chairs with an urn-shaped back splat, curved front legs, and light blue upholstered seat. The chairs may have belonged Asa Stebbins Jr. (1800-1864) of Deerfield and then his son, Francis Ward Stebbins (1829-1906), for whom Asa bought the E. H. Willliams House in 1852. Francis Ward Stebbins left the chairs in the house when he moved in 1866; the house and chairs descended in the Cowles famly and the chairs were given to HD in 1976 along with a sofa, 76.283.
