Description:
Chinese export porcelain figure of a white crane with molded crest on the top of its head; a long beak with two small holes representing the nostrils; a slender neck; long body with incised detailing to depict feathers on the body; and perched on a stump, which is covered with a white glaze and has an unglazed base. Although several experts including William Sargent have examined this figurine, it is still not clear if this is a 19th century piece or earlier. In Chinese mythology, the crane was, next to the phoenix the most sacred bird and represented longevity as it was said to have a life span of one to three millennia.
