Description:
Framed Italian needlework sampler done in polychrome silk embroidery on a plain natural linen ground with the initials "AB" twice on either side of a large tree on the center of the bottom row. The sampler has two lines of the alphabet (missing a J, V, and Y) in capital letters, and floral sprays, tree, flowers, flower baskets, birds, griffin, dog, Tuscan-like villa with four trees and a fence in front, a Harlequin-like figure holding a donkey, all surrounded with four different borders and a flying bird in each outside corner.
