Description:
Chinese export porcelain hexagonal, lobed spoon tray decorated in the center well with two winged angels with trumpets flankng and extending out their arms to an elaborate deivce with a dove flying over two gilt joined, oval ciphers probably commemorating a marriage, and scrolls, tassel, and a crossed foliate sprig and feather at the botton, in the Famille rose palette of pink, blue, turquoise, red, black and gilding. The lobed rim is decorated with gilt circles alternating with rectangular reserves with stylized designs in pink. Spoon trays were commonly used until about 1790, even though saucers were provided. The lobed-hexagonal shape of the spoon tray, also popular for tea stands, was indigenous to China. The tray was broken, April 2006, and repaired and returned April 2007.
