Description:
Woman's summer bonnet made from alternating bands of brown and off-white braided straw stitched together. Straw was a lightweight material for bonnets worn in warmer weather. Alternating bands of light and dark color provided visual interest and novelty. Women's hats and bonnets during the 1870s and 1880s were light in scale, and made to sit towards the back of the wearer's head, exposing the face and front of the hair.

Subjects:
Textile fabrics
