Description: Off white wool blanket decorated with circular embroidery designs executed in red wool in each of the four corners. Rose blankets, so named because of the abstracted flower of these embroidered corner motifs, were common English exports to America in the 18th and early 19th century. The blanket is made up of two selvage widths of fulled wool (each 33 1/4" wide) folded right sides together, then butt seamed down the blanket's center and whip or overcast stitched together. Each of the four embroidered motifs is executed in a similar manner on all four outer corners: herringbone stitched outer border, a feather stitched inner border, and a stylized "X" motif in the center. The embroidery was done after the blanket was made. Top and bottom are hemmed.
