Description:
Red petticoat made of red wool weft and white, plain weave linen warp, which is pleated to an off-white, linen waistband. This type of fabric was used for coarse, everyday clothing such as this petticoat. Many home weavers in the early 19th century purchased factory-spun cotton to use with either woolen or linen wefts, which were still often home spun.
