Description:
Dutch delft tile (HD 60.0653) is decorated in blue with Biblical scene of Elijah receiving bread from a crow. The second tile (HD 69.0653/A) is plain off-white. They came from a house in Newport, but Miss C. Alice Baker (1833-1909) regretted using them as they belonged to a house near the sea. They appear in an early Emma Lewis Coleman (1853-1942) photograph of the parlor, and were removed in the 1950 restoration. John Austin notes that more than 500 scenes from the Bible have been identified on Dutch delft tiles.
