Description:
Chippendale slat-back, or ribbon-back, side chair with the front cabriole legs ending in ball-and-claw feet and turned, compressed stretchers; the seat is covered with gold upholstery with a bird and flower design. The chair is a composite of two old chairs, the back taken from one chair and the front from another, joined with new maple sides, probably in the twentieth century. Although some authentic examples have been found, the ladder-back was usually combined with the square Chippendale leg.

Subjects:
Textile fabrics; Mahogany
