Description:
Dutch delft cylindrical mug with handle decorated with an elaborate blue floral design, which is Dutch according to Jonathan Horne (Jan. 23, 1995). Mugs served all types of alcoholic beverages and were prone to rough use and breakage. Given the fragility of delftware, few mugs survive. The front of the mug has a large blue floral spray with large center flower opposite the handle and two stems scrolling out with flowers and leaves, and coiled vine tendrils. Both the rim of the mug, which slightly tapers towards the top, and the molded base are encircled with three blue bands; the loop handle is decorated with horizontal slashes.

Subjects:
Pottery; glaze (coating by location)
