Description:
Chippendale corner or roundabout chair in mahogany as the primary wood, with the seat rails made of mahogany and maple, and the diagonal strut added to the frame near the front leg made of white pine. The seat upholstery has been replaced. The chair purportedly descended in the Williams family of Deerfield. The chair has a scrolled back rest over armrails ending in C-scrolled hand grips; over two vase-shaped, pierced back splats and turned arm and center back supports. A portion of one of the splats had been broken and the other reduced by the same amount, so that the two splats would match. The four straight legs are chamfered on the inner sides, and are joined with straight "X-crossed" stretchers.
