Description: English pearlware, press-molded figurines of the seasons, "Spring" and "Summer", probably from a set of the Four Seasons, decorated in "Prattware" colors of brown, green, blue, and yellow, after the potter, William Pratt, who developed the palette at his factory in Lane Delph, Staffordshire. These are the typical range of colors available for underglaze painted decoration, a palette limited to colors derived from metallic oxides that could withstand the heat of the glaze firing. "Spring" has brown hair and holds a flower against the body with one hand and an upturned cornacopia full of flowers with the other hand; has a blue and orange dotted garment; and stands on a green knoll over a blue, orange, and green molded, rectangular base surrounded by a molded foliate design. "Summer" also has brown hair and holds a cornacopia against the body with one hand and a grape vines with the other hand; has a blue and orange dotted garment; and stands on a green knoll over a blue, orange, and green molded, rectangular base surrounded by a molded foliate design. These are similar to models by Ralph Wood, Jr. (1748-1795)
