Description:
English Staffordshire plate decorated in shades of pink with a transfer print of a landscape scene with a cow, stag and two deer in the foreground, and a tower and stately home in the background; and a rim border of five single, detached floral sprays on a geometric ground, which is typical of this series of romantic scenes There is a scrolled cartouche on the back with the title, "Park / Scenery / G. PHILLIPS" over "LONGPORT." According to Coysh and Henrywood, George Phillips was in partnership with his brother, Edward, from 1822-1834, and then continued on his own from 1834-1848 when many different designs were made including this "Park Scenery", "Verona", Marine", and "Canova." A selection of floral and romantic patterns were included, and flow-blue was also made. During her visit to HD on June 21, 1995, Louise Richardson noted that the Hollis Historical Society has several similar pieces.
