Description:
"The Holy Bible Containing the Old and New Testament Together with the Apocrypha" that belonged to Burtis family, which was printed by Thomas and George Palmer for Mathew Carey, Philadelphia, November 7, 1803. There are three pages of family records in the center of the Bible, between "Malachi" and "Apocrypha;" the center of the first of those pages has a printed rectangle: "THIS BIBLE / Is The Property of / Ramson Burtis / and Elizabeth his wife / 1810 / 1810 [in ink[". On the next page, under "FAMILY RECORD," the first entry is: "Ramson Burtis / and / Elizabeth Sniffen / were married / April / the 10th 1788." The last page of the Family Record records the death of the father of the donor, "Edward Strong Burtis / February 3rd, 1934." The last entry was made in 1944. There are pencil inscriptions on the back of the page before the beginning of the New Testament, including: "R B" / "1832" / "East Chester" "? Y." The back cover has the inscriptions in ink: "September No, 17 - 1805" and "2 John 1 17 / hebrews 4 11 / 8 Malachi."
