Description:
English Staffordshire teapot with cover, scrolled handle, shaped spout, and footed base decorated in flow blue, marked on the base, "STONE WARE / P.W. & Co." for Podmore, Walker & Company (working 1834-1859), which descended in the Tomfohrde family. According to the data card, the donor wrote: "This flowing blue, tea pot is all that remains of a set which belonged to my grandmother who lived most of her life in Canada. The remainder of the set was sold to help defray the expenses of her son, who was seriously ill. Upon the occasion of the marriage of a relative, this tea pot was sent as a wedding gift, packed in a small trunk, between two feather pillows. I was not sure of the location in Canada from which it was sent to Laconia, N.H. It was a miracle it arrived intact! On the day the recipient's daughter was married, the tea pot was given to me, (to come back into my family again.) Mrs. John H. Tomfohrde."

Subjects:
Pottery; Enamel and enameling; glaze (coating by location)
