Description:
Chinese export porcelain teacup with saucer (HD 64.045.2) decorated en grisaille (or encre de chine or ink color) with peach tones and gilding. Based on an unknown engraving in the "fete champetre" style of David Teniers II (1610-1690), the closely-detailed scene has five men around a table drinking and playing cards as the man on the right end grasps a serving girl holding a pitcher, and roosters and hens scratch and feed in the foreground. This scene is also found in polychrome enamels and "en camaieu" and with different border designs.
