Description:
English slipware, thrown, circular dish (Shape F) decorated with a red-brown and dark brown slip-trailed abstract tulip/flower design that fills the well and an unglazed back. The tulip has a pyramid-shaped stem with two oval leaves at the top extending from a well-like rosette, and two scrolled leaves at the base. The rim is covered with a trellis pattern, composed of overlapping diagonal lines of red-brown and dark brown trailed slip. The back has an old paper label: "M. Frank Falkner / Hillside / Bowdon / Cheshire." Frank Falkner was the author of "The Wood Family of Burslem."
