Description:
Chinese export porcelain oval spoon tray with angled edges and six lobed sides decorated in black, iron red, blue, and gilding. Spoon trays were commonly used until about 1790, even though saucers were provided. The lobed-hexagonal shape of the spoon tray, also popular for tea stands, was indigenous to China. There is a blue band around the interior lip with gold stars, and an oval line of leaf sprays alternating blue and red. Inside oval armorial shield-like device containing iron red and gilt flower sprig. Pair of birds above with iron red and gilt flowers. At the top of shield three interlocking blue, iron red, and gilt rings and streamers.
