Description:
English redware two-handled cup decorated on each side with a cream-colored mold-applied crown over the initials "GR" for George III (1738-1820), who reigned from 1760-1811 (Act of Regency) , and six cream-colored mold-applied flowers on a stem with three leaves. The cup has a slightly flared neck, wide round body, two off-white strap handles with scroll terminals, and a flat, flared foot, and four off-white bands. A similar cup with GR medallion in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum (C.390-1923) in London has sprig decoration of Lord Rodney and Lord Hood - dating it to c. 1780-1785.
