Description:
Drawing titiled "Ship Rome of Salem Mass from Calcutta to Boston 1831" According to research by Sam Scott of the Peabody Essex Museum, "records indicate that the Rome was built in Salem in 1829 for Pickering Dodge. She was about 116' long which is more or less the size of the Friendship reproduction that the Park Service have here at Derby Wharf. She went through a number of owners in her career. In 1849 she went out to San Francisco and ended up being hauled ashore and built into a wharf."
