Description:
Chinese export porcelain salt decorated in the Famille rose palette of iron red, rose, blue, green, brown, black, and gilding, which was made after a silver form known as trencher salts. The top of the well has the arms of Renny and a gilt band with the motto "probitate consilium perficitur". Robert Renny, grandson of Patrick Renny of Usan Co., married Elizabeth Jean Tailyour in 1773 and died in 1787 leaving five sons The champfered elongated trencher form has an overhanging lip and flared foot decorated on the side with flower sprays and a spearhead border.
