Description: Chinese export porcelain globular-shaped teapot with cover and coil handle decorated with floral sprays and molded chrysanthemum petals in the Famille rose palette of iron red, pink, green, yellow, blue, and white. The decoration on this teapot (similar to saucer, HD 59.213) is described by David Howard: "The period 1730 to 1740 saw a considerable number of such shaped teapots, with finely painted cups and saucers, sometimes with similar bases. They were not mass produced but individual services which would have been chosen from stock in china shops in Canton. It is likely that many were destined only for display in china cabinets, and serving pieces are frequently in excellent condition." The flat-topped domed cover has a flattened round knop and two rows of concave fluted chrysanthemum petals, one pink and one white, ending in a scalloped rim edge. The pot has two shaped reserves with floral sprays on a white ground; scattered floral sprays on a pink ground; and two rows of vertical concave fluted chrysanthemum petals, one pink and one white, around the lower body.
