Description:
Embroidered mourning picture done in silk on linen with a covered urn inscribed: "T W / Born at BOSton / AUG.5 1727 / DIED at AMherSt / OCT 17 1791 / Aged - 64" and a tombstone inscribed "TW / 64." This is Thomas Wakefield (1727-1791) who was born in Boston, Massachusetts and moved to Amherst, New Hampshire, where he was a carpenter, farmer, selectman of Amherst from 1761-1769, and town clerk. In 1750, Thomas Wakefield married Dorcas Pratt (1725-1802) and had eight children - Thomas (1751-1839), Joseph (1752-1827), Ebenezer (b.1753), Timothy (1756-1849), William (1757-1826), Dorcas (1759-1819), John (1762-1831), and Peter (1764-1847).
