Description:
Black leather-bound trunk, studded with brass nails and lined with printed fabric, which has a Thorn Family provenance. Dr. Edwin Cyrus Thorn Jr. (1874-1920) and his wife, Luanna A. (Franklin) Thorn (1874-1965) lived on lot 26 in Deerfield, which Luanna bought in 1905 and is now known as the Wells-Thorn House. Dr. Thorn, born in Brattleboro, VT., was the son of Edwin Cyrus Thorn Sr. (1854-1921) and Carrie Horton; Luanna A. Franklin was born in Guilford, VT. Dr. Thorn's father, Edwin C. Thorn Sr., a pharmacist, was born in Leyden, MA, grew up in Brattleboro, VT, and died in Snyder, NY. He was the son of Leyden natives Isaac Newton Thorn (1823-1894) and Angeline Augusta Miner (1832-1856). Isaac moved his family to Brattleboro, VT, soon after his marriage in 1850. The trunk probably belonged originally to a member of Isaac's generation.
