Description:
Chinese export porcelain punch bowl decorated in the Famille rose palette with elements of the 'Rose Mandarin' pattern in pink, purple, orange, blue, red, green, and brown. Designed by the Chinese exclusively for the export market, the patterns for both 'Rose Mandarin' and 'Rose Medallion' were derived from 18th century floral and figural designs on 'famille rose' porcelains and those porcelains made for the Western markets in the second half of the 18th century such as this example. The exterior has two large panels with Chinese figures alternating with two smaller reserves with birds on branches and small orange insets with landscapes and butterflies in the upper corners. The interior has butterflies and swags around the interior rim and a large floral spray in the center well.
