Spoon trays were commonly used until about 1790, even though saucers were provided. The lobed-hexagonal shape of this spoon tray, also popular for tea stands, was indigenous to China. The center well has a faux ermine and blue and gilt draped shield with black rococo escutcheon with an iron red and gilt floral sprig, encircled with a blue and gilt floral chain. There is a blue and gilt band with stars over gilt scalloped line around the rim edge.
