Description:
Chinese export porcelain saucer decorated with floral sprays and molded chrysanthemum petals in the Famille rose palette in iron red, pink, yellow, green, grey, and gilding. The decoration on this saucer is similar to teapot, HD 62.031, which is described by David Howard: "The period 1730 to 1740 saw a considerable number of such shaped teapots, with finely painted cups and saucers, sometimes with similar bases. They were not mass produced but individual services which would have been chosen from stock in china shops in Canton. It is likely that many were destined only for display in china cabinets, and serving pieces are frequently in excellent condition." The rim has two rows of concave fluted chrysanthemum petals, one pink and one white; the well has a floral spray.
