Description:
Militia officer's hat in black plush over cardboard in the appearance of a bicorn but shaped as a hat. 17" from tip to tip and 2 1/2" across tip. A black ostrich feather 15" long crosses the top of the hat from left crown to right tip. Crown of hat measures 5 1/4" front to back and 9" from side to side. Front and back of hat are shaped to stand 3" front to 5" back of hat above crown. A five layered and pleated black silk rosette is on the front of the hat with a 7/8" brass button with a Massachusetts emblem in center. The top lining is silk over buckram with the remains of a label "---TON" in the center. A pleated paper covered in a very fine gauze is attached to the center crown and a leather headband finishes the inside. A paper label with the name "A. Harris, Worcester" is attached to the top.
