Description:
English creamware oval mold with a wavy rim. The body is pierced with bands of openwork, with a convex pineapple shape on the bottom. There is a plain foot rim around approximately 1/3 of the base to balance the pineapple shape so the the mold can stand flat. This mold was used to create a curd cheese. The mold was lined with cheese cloth and the whey drained away from the curds leaving a very soft formed cheese inside the mold. These types of pierced molds were part of the equipment of a refined dairy.
