Description:
Delft caster or dredger often used for sugar and other dry condiments at table, with blue decoration and a mark on the base. The caster has a pinched knob over six holes in the domed top, and is decorated with an overall blue foliate design. The caster was in the collection of Joseph Downs of Guilford, Connecticut, former curator of the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC) and of Winterthur. Two similar casters in the Nina Fletcher Little collection were described as "An Assembled Pair of Savon Faience Blue and White Casters, Albisola Factory , circa 1770."
