Description:
Silver patch box with the touchmark "I.P" with pellets in a shield for John Potwine (1699-1792) and the initials "AP" engraved on the base, which is decorated with a oval, multi-petalled flower in the center and a band of arrow-like decoration around the rim on the flat top. Both men and women applied small, decorative patches to their faces to conceal blemishes and decorate the face in genteel society.
