Description:
Pair of pattens that were a form of clogs with leather uppers and the wooden sole usually raised 1" or 1 1/2" off the ground on an oval iron ring. The oval iron bases are attached to the wooden soles with wrought nails. They were used starting in the 17th century to keep feet free from mud and slush.
