Description: English pearlware pap boat or feeder with blue transfer print decoration. Open pap boats were made in a variety of material, including wood, pewter, silver, bone and ceramics, with the first ceramic boats dating to the mid 18th century. Most pap boats are small open, boat-shaped containers with one end with an extended lip for placing in the mouth, which held on average 1-2 fluid ounces; they were often used for feeding infants flour or bread soaked with water, wine or diluted milk. This slipcast pap boat, which does not have a handle, has blue and white floral patterns on the sides and top edge, and floral/bird patterns inside the bottom and on the spout. Although stained, it is without major chips or cracks.
