Description:
Circular, straight sided vessel with two handles and a lid, lid has interior double flange and flattened knop, tin-glazed earthenware body decorated in cobalt blue on lid and body with vining flowers and rocks with holes that are dotted in a chinoiserie style, handles are striped and top of lid has a star design. The pot has underglaze blue mark on underside for "PAK" or Pieter Adriaensz Kocx of the Greek A Factory of Delft (c. 1705-1720). This mark appears suspicious and may have been added at a later date. The poor quality of the decoration and potting on this butter pot is not similar to the work of the Greek A Factory. There is a lot of bubbling to the glaze and black speckled surfaces that appear to be refired.

Subjects:
Pottery; glaze (coating by location)
