Description:
Chinese export porcelain tureen decorated overall with large and small floral sprays in the Famille rose palette of pink, lavender, and yellow. According to David Howard, this tureen was based on a continental European silver prototype. However, the handles of the original silver form would have protruded from the base, while in this porcelain example the handles are molded close to the body for additional strength. The tureen has a pierced, high-domed lid has a gilded flower knob that is surrounded by molded petals in purple and a gilt border design around the edge of the cover. There are similar gilded borders on the tureen, which has vertical molding, two molded handles decorated with a gilded filigree pattern, and a flared footed base.
