Description:
Chinese export porcelain tureen and cover decorated in the Famille rose palette of green, purple, rose, iron red and gilding. This is an example of a Western form, probably based on European silver designs, adapted in Chinese porcelain with foreign influenced colors. The bombe-shaped tureen has chamfered corners, square iron-red enamel handles angled upward, and short, thick scrolled paw feet. The cover has a hat-shaped pyramid top with double iron red pomegranate or foliate knop with moulded green overglaze enamel leaves. The tureen is decorated in both sides in rose, gilt, purple and iron red flowers in flower chain roundel hanging from red and purple ribbon and rose and gilt garland. The champfered rim has a gilt double twist chain and iron red details. The center decoration on the cover has the same bouquet as the bottom with rose and purple flower sprays in between. The well border is a reversed rose and gilt garland with iron red brushstrokes and green leaves followed by an iron red band with traces of gilt. The rim has a gilt and green moulded striped border and gilt edge.
