Description:
Group of four side chairs with 1662.1 and 1662.2 a matching pair, and this example and 1662.4, another matching pair. The first two are based on Plate 36, No, 1 of Thomas Sheraton's "The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book" (London, 1791-1793), with their center raised backs having a carved Prince of Wales feather over an urn and swag. The second pair are based on an English prototype with a plainer back. Both have reeded, tapered legs ending in spade feet, a form often used in New York.
