The daughter of Joseph Priestly Allen (1795-1838) and Sarah Newcomb Allen (1798-1833), Sarah Newcomb Allen (1822-1851) married Alfred Russell Field (1815-1870) in 1843. Born in Northfield, Massachusetts, Field moved to Greenfield where he was a civil engineer, town office holder, and state legislature representative for one year. After Sarah's death in 1851, Alfred married Sarah' sister, Mary Hunt Allen (1829-1859) in 1852. His third wife was Rebecca Jackson (b.1832); their daughter (and his fifth child) was Mary Williams Fuller (1863-1951) who married George Spencer Fuller (1863-1911) of Deerfield. The sampler descended to their daughter, Elizabeth B. Fuller (1896-1979). The sampler has four rows of the alphabet in block and script, and upper and lower case letters, and numbers, over a two-story, five bay house with two chimneys and nine windows, which is flanked by tree, birds, and flower baskets.
