Description: four people on a path in the snow; trees; buildings; winter
Label Text: View of a snow scene in Simla looking along the hillside towards Christ Church from the 'Album of Indian Views' taken by Samuel Bourne in 1864. Christ Church designed by Colonel J.T. Boileau was built between 1844 and 1857. The large porch, added in 1873, was a popular place for meetings before and after services and was also the best site in the area for parades due to its size. The church had a fresco surrounding its chapel window designed by Lockwood Kipling, Rudyard Kipling's father, but it no longer survives. (label text from British Library website)
