This child's sampler was completed by Mary Cox, "aged ten", on May 21, 1811. The piece includes birds, floral motifs, and fanciful architecture, as well as the following moralizing verse:
Teach me to feel another's woe
To hide the fault I see
The mercy I to others show
That mercy show to me
