Description: Abstract composition consisting of wide bands of black, blue, red, yellow, and green
Label Text: Since 1996, Andrea Belag has been experimenting with pictorial space and the potential mood she is able to impose using layers of translucent colors. In her geometric abstractions, she achieves the effect of light flickering beneath the veils of fluidly-applied paint.
The title, Lace, refers to the diaphanous band of blue, which reveals a lacelike pattern of canvas just below the surface. The spatial composition of Lace alludes to the painting Open Window at Collioure by Henri Matisse, while the vertical and horizontal bands of radiant color refer to the Ocean Park paintings by Richard Diebenkorn.
