Label Text:
The mineral stone case is richly decorated with pierced repoussé (embossing) of foliate scrolls, flowers, rocaille motifs (rock or broken shell ornamentation), doves, crossed torches, and a quiver of arrows. The inscription around the rim reads: “Quand cet oeuf s’eclorre mon amour finera” (“When this egg hatches, my love will end”), and the white cartouche bears the monogram of Marie Antoinette.
