Artist's statement:
The definition of pattern can vary from something as tangible as mathematical repetivite structural sequences to something as vague as perceptual rhythm. Whether it is used as metaphor, or decontextualized, systemic or intuitive, the identity of representation is articulated by repetition. The pattern imagery I choose to work with gives reference to atmosphere, landscape, and citiscape. Images float within thee contexts, materializing directly from the given patterns, or being deliberately introduced to react to the system of marks. This page gives reference to flag/monolith...concrete yet transparent...America in the 70's. - Philip Warner, Artifacts at the End of a Decade catalogue. © 1981
Artist's Process noted in catalogue: An edition of 150 pages were hand silkscreened on canvas, using 3 screens and split fountain technique, and oil pastel was added. The pages were backed with latex.
